US State Department: Kuwait Reconstruction Conference an important opportunity for the Iraqi government
US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan stressed the importance of Iraq’s reconstruction conference to be held in Kuwait later this month.
Sullivan’s position comes after an official visit to Iraq recently, where he discussed with Iraqi officials many issues of common concern, including investment opportunities.
“The upcoming Iraq reconstruction conference in Kuwait will provide an important opportunity for the Iraqi government to offer many attractive investment opportunities to foreign investors, including US companies, in order to prove that Iraq is open to businessmen and their business activities,” Sullivan told reporters.
The US official said he agreed with the Iraqi side to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, finance, politics and diplomatic cooperation.
He said that he discussed with the Iraqi officials the recent defeats of the so-called Islamic State Organization. He added that the members of the international coalition will meet at the ministerial level during the Iraq reconstruction conference to be held in Kuwait on the 13th of this month. Eliminate (urge).
With regard to the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Sullivan said he called on Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi to continue working with the Prime Minister of Kurdistan, Nechirvan Barzani, to find practical solutions to many controversial issues such as salaries and the reopening of Kurdish airports.
“During the meetings held there, the Afghan leadership assured me that despite the recent tragic events, the Afghan government will continue to work to create the necessary conditions to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table and create the right environment for sustainable peace,” he said.
“Everyone in Afghanistan wants peace except the Taliban,” Sullivan said.
