The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan welcomes Al-Kazimi’s candidacy for prime minister
The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan welcomed, Wednesday, April 8, 2020, the candidacy of Mustafa Al-Kazemi for the post of prime minister, who returned to him as a friend of the Kurds.
Obelisk publishes the text of the statement:
In the last meeting of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan on April 2/2020 one of the main focuses of the discussion was the study and support of Mr. Mustafa Al-Kazemi if Mr. Adnan Al-Zorfi withdrew from the candidacy, and after the discussions, the meeting welcomed the proposal.
We consider Mr. Al-Kazemi as a friend of the Kurds, and he has pledged, if he obtains our confidence to become Prime Minister, that he will protect the rights of our people stipulated in the Iraqi constitution and develop relations.
Also, Mr. Mustafa Al-Kazemi called a few days ago in Lahore, Sheikh Genki, joint head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, requesting his support.
In a related development, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, contacted the joint head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan today for his advice. After discussing with the Kurdish blocs, the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region issued a statement confirming Al-Kazemi’s support.
And taking into account the legitimate demands of the demonstrators and the desire of the Shiite parties to unite the word and out of conviction of the need for peaceful coexistence, providing stability and facing risks, the Kurdistan National Union sees the need to form a strong national government that adheres to the constitution as soon as it is an initiator and supporter of that.
The PUK also calls on all Kurdish political parties to hold an expanded meeting to unify positions. Source
