The World Bank confirms its readiness to structure the loans granted to Iraq
Minister of Planning Nuri Sabah Al-Dulaimi received, on Tuesday, 28 April 2020, Ramzi Numan, the World Bank’s representative in Iraq and his accompanying delegation.
Al-Dulaimi valued the meeting, which was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning Maher Hammad Johan, according to a statement of the ministry the level of support provided by the World Bank mission to the efforts of the Iraqi government.
Al-Dulaimi called for restructuring the international support provided to Iraq according to the priorities of the current health and economic conditions, outlining the measures adopted by the Ministry to reduce these consequences, and to provide an integrated vision to address the future repercussions that the crisis will produce, represented by the high rates of poverty and unemployment, as a result of the economic downturn and declining growth rates, Low GDP.
Al-Dulaimi announced the inclusion of the governorates of Diwaniyah, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Wasit, Baghdad, Anbar, Diyala, and Sulaymaniyah in the Social Fund for Development project supporting the Ministry’s strategic plans to reduce poverty, bringing the total of the 11 governorates included to the provinces of Muthanna, Salahuddin and Duhok in the year. The past, stressing adding the remaining provinces during the next year.
For his part, the Resident Representative of the World Bank in Iraq praised the efforts of the Minister, and the quick measures taken by the Ministry of Planning to face the repercussions of the current crisis, stressing the readiness of the World Bank to provide possible support and restructuring of loans granted to Iraq, and in this way, which contributes to protecting fragile segments of society.
