Russia’s central military commander Alexander Labin said on Monday that there were about 10,000 militants operating in central Asia after the loss of the Da’ash organization in Iraq and Syria.
“According to our estimates, some 10,000 militants are deployed in the territory of Afghanistan, most of them belong to Da’ash, who did not abandon the goal of declaring the caliphate on the territory of the republics of Central Asia,” Labin said in a press statement. “Five thousand of them are concentrated in areas North Afghanistan“.
“After their defeat in Syria and Iraq, they are moving to other regions and focusing their attention on Central Asian countries,” he said.
