A candidate for prime minister comments on the latest developments and sends a message to the government of Abdul-Mahdi

The candidate for prime minister in the next transitional government, Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, commented, on Saturday, January 25, 2020, on the recent developments in the demonstration squares, while submitting a request to the resigned government headed by Adel Abdul-Mahdi.

Allawi said in a tweet on his account on “Twitter”, “We demand the resigned government to protect the demonstrators, prevent violence and stop all methods of repression against the sons of Iraq who demand their legitimate rights as a mature and peaceful youth group. Enough violence, and stop taking blood for the Iraqis.”

He added, “Respect the citizen and his opinion, and respect the blood of the martyrs, because Iraq and its people are greater than everyone else.”

Since last Monday, the capital, Baghdad, and southern governorates have witnessed an escalation in the peaceful protest that has continued since the beginning of October, after the end of the “Nasseriya deadline”, to protest against the delay in choosing a prime minister for the next government. Following the withdrawal of Sadrist supporters from the demonstration square, as well as in Basra and other governorates that are witnessing popular protests. Source
