A source reveals details of Barzani’s visit to Baghdad and the nature of his request to Al-Kazemi
An informed political source revealed, on Sunday (June 21, 2020), the details of the visit of the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, to Baghdad yesterday, and submitted a request to Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi to help him solve the financial crisis in the region.
The source said in an interview with (Baghdad today), “Barzani’s visit and the meetings that he had with Iraqi officials were a prelude to another visit by a delegation from the regional government at a later time,” noting that “Barzani did not sign any agreement in Baghdad at all.”
He added, “The dialogues that Barzani held with officials in Baghdad revolved around the oil file, financial dues, dialogue with the United States, and the war against ISIS.”
The source added, “Barzani asked Al-Kazemi to help the region because of the difficult situation he is going through as a result of the health and economic crisis and the delay in the distribution of salaries, in addition to being asked to be more flexible in the dialogue that will take place next week between Baghdad and Erbil.”
He pointed out that “Barzani pledged to Al-Kazemi to end all outstanding problems and meet the conditions of Baghdad for the delivery of oil and other revenues.”
The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, and the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, stressed on Saturday (20 June 2020) the importance of resolving the outstanding issues between the federal government and the region in accordance with the constitution.
The media office of the President of the Republic, in a statement, stated that the latter “received at the Palace of Baghdad the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and the accompanying delegation.”
He added, “During the meeting, the importance of resolving the outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government was confirmed in accordance with the constitution and legal frameworks, and through cooperation and joint coordination in a manner that preserves the rights of all Iraqis and achieves social justice.”
And he added: “The solutions required to get out of the economic crisis in the country were also discussed, as well as consolidating solidarity and synergy among all to confront the Corona pandemic and limit its spread, and support health and security cadres to ensure the safety of citizens.”
Before that, the media office of the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, issued a statement revealing the details of the latter’s meeting with the President of the Kurdistan Region, Negervan Barzani.
The office stated, in a statement, that the latter “received the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani.”
He added, “Discussing the files between the federal government and the territorial government, and working to solve the previous problems in accordance with the constitution and in a way that achieves the general interest of the country in facing the current challenges facing all provinces of the country.”
The Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, stressed, according to the statement, “the importance of national cooperation and solidarity in order to overcome the current challenges, especially the economic crisis caused by the decline in global oil prices, which was caused by the Corona pandemic.”
And the Prime Minister’s Office added, “It was emphasized that the challenges facing the country require the cooperation of everyone to confront them and cross the country towards the correct path that it is taking, in order to build a safe, stable and united Iraq.” Source
