Iraqi President, PM Ask Parliament to Declare National Emergency
Iraq’s President Barham Salih and caretaker Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi on Sunday asked the country’s parliament to declare national emergency in the wake of growing number of coronavirus infections.
Salih and Abdul Mahdi wrote to Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi that the current situation requires the announcement of a 30-day national emergency across the country.
The Parliament is yet to convene and respond to the call.
According to the latest updates, a total of 110 people in Iraq have so far contracted the coronavirus, including 29 in Kurdistan Region. Ten patients have lost their lives. Source
