Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll Nears 1,000

With 135 people dying from coronavirus in the past 24 hours across Iran, the death toll in the country climbs to just below 1,000. Health Ministry spokesperson Kianoosh Jahanpour told reporters on Tuesday that the total number of deaths has now reached 988. He also revealed that 1,178 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, which brings the total number of infections in the country up to 16,169. Among those infected, 5,389 have fully recovered, Jahanpour added. Tehran, Qom, Gilan, Esfahan, Alborz, and Mazandaran remain the six worst-affected provinces.
