Iraq’s PM-Designate Plans Snap Elections within a Year
Iraq’s Prime Minister-designate Adnan al-Zurfi revealed that he is planning to hold early elections within the first year of his cabinet if approved.
Zurfi touched upon the issue in his future cabinet’s agenda he submitted to the Iraqi parliament on Saturday as part of the preparations for a vote on his nomination at the assembly.
Zurfi has less than two weeks to form a government amid dispute between various political parties, including the Shia Fatah Alliance led by Hadi al-Amri.
According to cabinet agenda Zurfi revealed on Saturday, his future cabinet will also work to find a solution to the disputes with the Kurdistan Region.
The agenda points out that disagreements between federal and regional governments should be addressed in a way that the constitution will be respected and partnership between components of Iraq will be honored. Source
