US Sanctions Undermine Tehran’s Ability to Fight Coronavirus: Iranian Envoy
Iranian Ambassador to Belgium has accused the United States of harming Iran’s effort in the battle against the coronavirus outbreak by rejecting to lift the economic sanctions on Tehran.
Ambassador Gholam Hossein Dehghani wrote in a letter EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell that the US sanctions “undermine Tehran’s ability to effectively fight the virus in the long run without international support”.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abbas Mousavi touched upon the issue and urged Washington to lift the sanctions amid the pandemic disease.
He also rejected asking any help from the US to counter the outbreak in Iran.
“Iran has never asked and will not ask America to help Tehran in its fight against the outbreak”, he added, accusing the US of “trying to force Tehran to accept negotiations with America”. Source
