Eradication of IS Should Remain Top Priority: Barzani

Kurdish prominent leader and the president of ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, reiterated that the eradication of the Islamic State (IS) should remain the top priority for all.

Barzani urged to stay committed to fighting the jihadists group in a statement he released following a deadly attack by IS on the Peshmerga positions.

Overnight on Tuesday, the IS militants attacked Peshmerga forces in Kolajo village near Kifri, south of Kurdistan’s Garmiyan District, killing two Kurdish troops and wounding one.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the Peshmerga forces who were martyred last night in Kolajo,” Barzani said in his statement, noting that the attack proved that IS has reorganized and it is posing a serious threat to the people.

“Therefore, eradication and uprooting terrorism should be the top priority for the Kurdistan Region, Iraqi government, and the [US-led] Coalition,” the Kurdish leader emphasized. Source
