Turkey Says Deployment of Russia’s S-400 Delayed But will Happen
A spokesperson for the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday that the deployment of Russia’s S-400 missile defense system has been delayed amid the outbreak of COVID-19 but it will happen ultimately.
“There has been a delay because of the coronavirus but it will move forward as it was planned,” Ibrahim Kalin told an online meeting hosted by the Atlantic Council, as reported by Reuters.
This comes while the US, a close NATO ally of Turkey, has repeatedly warned Ankara not to purchase the Russian air defense system or it should prepare for sanctions.
However, the spokesperson added, Erdogan had told US President Donald Trump that Turkey is also willing to buy the Patriot missiles defense system. Source
