Iraq Captures Possible Successor of IS Slain Leader Baghdadi
Iraq’s National Intelligence Service said on Wednesday night that it had captured Abdul Nassir Qardash who was a possible successor of Islamic State (IS) slain leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
“Today, the terrorist named Abdulnasser al-Qirdash, the candidate to succeed the criminal al-Baghdadi, was arrested. [The arrest] came after accurate intelligence,” the statement from the Iraqi National Intelligence Service read, as cited by Al-Arabiya.
A security source told Iraqi News Agency that Qardash led the Islamic State’s (IS) last battle in Syria’s Baghouz in February, last year.
Reports in late 2019 revealed that Qardash is an Iraqi Turkmen from Telafar near Mosul city. Source
