PM Barzani, Coalition Delegation Discuss Government Reforms, IS Threat

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday received a delegation from the US-led Coalition in Erbil where they discussed the government reforms and the Islamic State (IS) threat in the region.

The Deputy Commander of Coalition Force’s Joint Operation for Stability in Iraq and Syria, Major General Gerald Strickland, who led the delegation, “emphasized the importance of continued coalition aid for Peshmerga forces, especially in the area of military training,” a statement by Barzani’s office said.

In the meantime, the Kurdish premier briefed the delegation on the progress of his cabinet’s reforms.

“Prime Minister Barzani spoke about the government’s reform process in the management and finance sectors, including reforms at the Ministry of Peshmerga,” the press release added.

Concerning the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, Barzani “stressed that ongoing disputes with the federal government should be resolved fundamentally within the framework of the Iraqi constitution and in a fair manner.” Source
