Baghdad Calls First Round of Iraq-US Dialogue “Successful”
The Iraqi government has called the first round of the strategic dialogue between Baghdad and Washington “successful and positive”.
“The first round of discussions in the Iraq – USA strategic dialogue was successful and positive. Iraq underscored that safeguarding Iraq’s sovereignty is paramount,” reads a statement released by PM Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s office.
A key objective of the new Iraqi government is to combat corruption, the statement said, adding that they “will not accept any practice outside the framework of the law.”
“But in order to achieve this, the authority of the state must prevail.”
A main subject of the discussions between Baghdad and Washington is discussing the future of the US troops in Iraq as the Council of Representatives earlier this year passed a resolution to force the foreign troops to leave the country. Source
