US Welcomes Initial Agreement by Syrian Kurdish Parties on Unity
The US has welcomed the initial agreement between the Kurdish National Council in Syria (KNC) and the Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) on the unity of Kurds in the Syrian Kurdistan.
KNC and TEV-DEM on Wednesday announced that they had reached an initial understanding to work jointly and promote unity among the Kurdish parties in Syria.
“The United States welcomes this preliminary understanding as an important step towards greater understanding and practical cooperation, which will benefit the Syrian Kurdish people as well as Syrians of all components. The delegations acknowledged the many sacrifices the people of Syria have made in recent years, especially those who gave their lives in the fight to help protect the world from the tyranny of ISIS,” reads a statement by the US embassy in Syria.
“This understanding symbolizes an important first step towards greater political coordination between Syrian Kurdish political factions with the support of the United States and will contribute to a peaceful resolution of the Syrian conflict under UN Resolution 2254 by helping unite all those Syrians opposed to the Assad regime,” the statement concluded.
