Kurdistan President, UN Envoy Discuss Iraqi Politics, COVID-19
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Saturday met with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, in Baghdad where they discussed the latest political developments in the country and the COVID-19 pandemic.
A statement by Barzani’s office explained that “the latest political and economic developments in Iraq and the effects of COVID-19 pandemic were highlighted at the meeting.”
“The two sides reiterated the importance of cooperation and coordination among all parties in Iraq in order to overcome the current crises facing the country.”
The pair further exchanged views on the relations between Erbil and Baghdad, stressing on the efforts to resolve the remaining disputes between the sides in accordance with the Constitution.
The Kurdish president, other than expressing appreciations for the “important” role of the United Nations in helping Erbil and Baghdad to reach an agreement, he also reaffirmed Kurdistan Region’s readiness to resolve its prolonged issues with Iraq. Source
