PICTURES | Iraq Deploys Army to Implement Lockdown in Karbala
The government of Iraq has imposed a complete lockdown on Karbala province in south of Baghdad to help curb the fast spread of the new coronavirus.
However, the local government of the Shia holy province has resorted to the army to ensure that the lockdown is fully in place.
According to pictures shared by social media users and activists, large numbers of soldiers with armored vehicle are seen on the streets of Karbala, urging people to stay home.
Iraq is now struggling with a devastating wave of the novel virus with rapid and constant increase in the death toll and infection tally.
As of 23 June, Iraq has recorded 32,676 confirmed cases with 1,167 deaths. Source
