Kurdistan President Says Iran “Important” Neighbor
Iran is an “important” neighbor to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, said President Nechirvan Barzani on Sunday.
Barzani made the remarks during a press conference after receiving Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in the capital Erbil where he emphasized on the importance of the autonomous region’s relations with the neighboring countries.
The Kurdish president told reporters that he with Zarif exchanged views on the latest political affairs in the region and the implications of COVID-19 on the trade movement in the area, thanking Iran for its support during the outbreak of the novel virus.
The Iranian minister, in return, pointed out that Tehran has “good” relations with the Kurdish people and “strong” economic and commercial ties with Erbil and Baghdad.
As the trade has continued, the coronavirus pandemic, then, has not affected Iran’s economic relations with the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, Zarif added. Source
