PM Barzani Encourages Finland to Establish Diplomatic Presence in Erbil
Kurdistan Region Prime Minister has encouraged Finland to establish its diplomatic presence in Erbil so as to improve its trade and investment in the autonomous region, a statement said on Thursday.
Barzani on Thursday received the Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto in Erbil where they discussed the latest developments in the region and the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between the Kurdistan Region and Finland, his office said in a statement.
“The Prime Minister encouraged Finland to establish diplomatic presence in Erbil to better enable Finnish trade and investment, and technical expertise,” the press release added.
“During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani also touched on his commitment to the reform agenda, detailing meaningful efforts to diversify revenues and promote greater investment in agriculture and industry.”
The Finnish minister, in return, reaffirmed his country’s commitment to continuing to support the Peshmerga forces as part of the US-led Coalition to combat the Islamic State (IS). Source
