US Envoy to Visit UK, Discuss Extension of UN Arms Embargo on Iran
US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook is scheduled to visit the United Kingdom this week to discuss the extension of the UN arms embargo on the Tehran government, the State Department said in a statement.
Hook was in Qatar and Kuwait over the weekend for the same purpose.
“Special Representative Hook will travel to Estonia and the United Kingdom on July 28-29 for consultations with our European allies,” reads the State Department’s statement.
The UN arms embargo on Iran is due to expire on 18 December this year. Washington is pressing for an extension to the embargo.
It introduced a draft resolution at the UN Security Council earlier in June to extend the embargo on Iran before it expires. However, Russia and China opposed the draft resolution immediately. Source
