Iraqi Parliament Urges Cooperations with Peshmerga Forces
Iraqi parliament has called for closer cooperations between the country’s forces and Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga fighters in efforts to eliminate the Islamic State (IS) sleeper cells in the region.
Mohammed Hussein Abu Zar, a member of parliamentary committee for security and defense, called on the Iraqi government to tighten the security measures and focus on closer cooperations with the Peshmerga fighters.
He argued that the Islamic State sleeper cells have been enjoying a security vacuum in the territories disputed between Erbil and Baghdad
“There should be high-level of cooperations to bring those areas under control,” the Iraqi lawmaker said, referring to the disputed areas.
Abu Zar also condemned Monday’s rocket attack on Erbil where one individual was killed and eight others, including a US service member, were injured.
