Rockets Land near Iraqi Base Housing US Forces
Two rockets on Sunday fell near Balad Air Base in north of Baghdad where the US forces are stationed, security sources confirmed.
The rockets landed on the outside fence of the base, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said in a statement, confirming that there was no casualties.
Initial investigations showed the attack aimed to strike Balad air base, north of Baghdad, but the rockets fell short and hit the village of al-Bu Asi just to the southeast of the base, the statement added.
According to the Iraqi security, the attack occurred at 12:15 local time, and no group or organization immediately claimed responsibility.
However, such attacks are often blamed on the Shia militia groups backed by Iran.
