Barzani Receives Arab League Chief in Erbil
Kurdish prominent leader and the president of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, on Sunday received the Secretary General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and his accompanying delegation in Erbil.
During a meeting, the officials discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region, according to a statement from Barzani Headquarters.
Aboul Gheit hoped that Iraq would move towards stability and away from foreign interventions in its internal affairs. He also highlighted the importance of strong relations between Iraq and other Arab states.
“The two officials also exchanged views on the current challenges facing the political process in Iraq… and emphasized on the necessity of the principle of partnership in Iraq,” the statement added.
Aboul Gheit was visiting Erbil after he met with Iraqi officials a day earlier in Baghdad. His trip came after Iraqi prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi visited Saudi Arabia and UAE in the recent weeks.
