Iraq: Saddam Hussein’s Son-in-law Released after 18 Years Behind Bars
Iraq’s judiciary has released a Saddam Hussein’s son-in-law after 18 years in prison, the Ministry of Justice said on Saturday.
An Iraqi court ordered the release of Jamal Mustafa Sultan, who was arrested back in 2003, due to lack of evidence, the ministry explained in a statement.
The husband of Saddam Hussein’s youngest daughter Hala, Mustafa is now 66 years old and he was arrested by the US forces on 20 April, 2003, just 11 days after Saddam Hussein was toppled.
He was an army officer while he was among 52 former officials sought by Washington for crimes against humanity.
