White House Middle East Coordinator Meets with Iraqi Leaders in Baghdad
White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk, arrived in Baghdad late on Wednesday to meet with top Iraqi officials.
McGurk’s unannounced visit to Baghdad coincides with the visit of Iranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi who also held meetings with Iraqi officials and the Iran-backed militia leaders.
The White House Middle East Coordinator separately met with Iraqi President Barham Salih and Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Thursday.
Kadhimi’s press office said they discussed the Washington-Baghdad cooperations in different areas of mutual interest, including the preparations for the next round of the US-Iraq Strategic Dialogue.
The office wrote on Twitter that the withdrawal of the US combat forces from Iraq and the future strategic cooperations were also discussed.
