Iraqi Forces Kill Senior IS Member in Diyala
Iraqi security forces managed to kill a senior member of the Islamic State (IS) insurgent group in the province of a Diyala, a spokesperson said on Saturday.
Yehia Rasool, a spokesperson for Iraq’s commander-in-chief, said in a statement on Twitter that the jihadist’s nickname was Abu Saad al-Sameen who was killed in an operation by the Iraqi counter-terrorism service.
The military spokesperson described the senior insurgent as “one of the most effective ISIS leaders” planning suicide and improvised explosive devices attacks.
Sameen was said to be the so-called Emir of the sector of Abi Zar al-Ghafari, in Diyala province, close to Lake Hamrin, he added, without providing further details on where or when the military campaign was conducted.
