Terrorist Attack Takes Down Power Transmission Tower in Kirkuk
Another power transmission tower in the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk was taken down by a bomb blast on Tuesday night.
A local official told BasNews an IED explosion targeted one of the main towers in the latest terrorist attack near Riyadh subdistrict, southwest of Kirkuk.
It caused a short disruption in the power grid in the area, and security forces soon launched an operation to secure the region.
During the operation, according to the official, a second improvised explosive device was found under another electricity transmission tower in the same area.
It was safely removed without causing any harm, the source confirmed.
The frequent sabotage attacks on the public power grid are often blamed on the Islamic State (IS). The group is said to be trying to challenge the Iraqi forces and the government by taking down public services during the extremely hot season.
