UPDATE: Kurdish Lawmaker Elected as Iraq’s Second Deputy Parliament Speaker

Iraqi parliament convened on Sunday to elect the second deputy speaker among two Kurdish nominees.

Out of 282 lawmakers, 185 voted for Dr. Bashir Haddad from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

Fifty-eight votes were in favour of Ahmed Haji Rashid, from the Kurdistan Islamic group (Komal).

Twenty-eight ballots were invalidated.

A day earlier, the Iraqi parliament elected former governor of Anbar, Mohammed al-Halbousi, as the speaker, and Hassan Kaa’bi as his first deputy. Source
