Iraq’s Electoral Commission Rejects Appeals Against Election Results: Statement
Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission rejected on Monday the appeals made by several political parties against the election results.
Several factions had appealed the outcome of the vote in Erbil, Duhok, Sulaymaniya, Kirkuk, Nineveh, Salahaddin, al-Qadisiyyah, Babil, and Karbala provinces, but the requests were not accepted as “there was not enough proof to support the case”, according to a statement released by the commission, a copy of which was obtained by BasNews.
“They still can make a plea to the relevant authorities against the decision within three days,” said the statement.
After the May 12 election results were announced earlier last week, many factions soon reacted to the process and demanded a manual recount as they claimed that some certain parties had pre-programmed the electronic system in favour of themselves. Source
