Salahaddin: Arab Tribes Demand Reopening of Erbil-Kirkuk Main Road
Some Arab tribes in the province of Salahaddin have criticized in a statement the federal security forces for not protecting the city from the Islamic State (IS) insurgents’ attacks, demanding the reopening of the Erbil-Kirkuk main road so that they can find refuge in the Kurdistan Region whenever they are attacked.
The statement came after the tribe of Shammar was attacked by the militant group in the absence of the Iraqi forces where the tribe’s members reacted to the IS’s raid and killed three of the jihadists.
They have called on the federal government to secure the province, especially the rural areas which have been affected by the presence of the extremist group.
The tribe has also demanded weapons for its young members so that they can defend their cities. Source
