Sadr Reveals Main Points of His New Alliance with Abadi

A day after announcing a new alliance with Haider al-Abadi’s Victory Alliance, the Sa’eroun faction, led by the Shi’ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr revealed on Sunday the main points of their agreement.

The pair has reiterated that the new coalition should focus on forming a technocrat government which contains all Iraqi components and is free from sectarian ideologies, supporting the federal security forces and preventing any other groups from carrying weapons, continuing on fighting the corruption and punishing those who are involved, and preparing a financial plan to improve the country’s economy sector, according to a statement by Sadr’s coalition.

The new coalition will also concentrate on keeping a balance in their relations with foreign countries in a way that best serves the Iraqi people, preserving a unified and democratic Iraq, and supporting the federal judicial authority in the country.

Iraq held the parliamentary election on May 12 in which Sadr’s Sa’eroun obtained a total of 54 seats of the parliament, while Abadi, who is also the Prime Minister of Iraq, came in third. Source
