Iraqi Delegation Meets with Barzani, Call for “New Page” in Erbil-Baghdad Relations
An Iraqi delegation of Reform Coalition, led by Ammar al-Hakim, met with Masoud Barzani, the president of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), on Sunday in Erbil, calling for “turning to a new page” in the relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
The guests reiterated support for Barzani’s introduced principles in the Erbil-Baghdad ties which are genuine partnership, balance, and consensus, according to a statement by Barzani’s office.
They also highlighted the role of Barzani and his party in the political process of Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Barzani explained that the Kurdish cause is “legitimate”, and that the Kurdish political leadership is hoping to prevent previous violations against the people of Kurdistan from being repeated.
“This requires a clear mechanism as well as [other sides’] commitment to this mechanism,” the statement quoted Barzani. Source
