EU Hopeful about Masrour Barzani’s Future Role as Prime Minister

The European Union has welcomed the nomination of Masrour Barzani to lead the next government of Kurdistan Region in the position of prime minister, said Dilawar Azhgayi, head of KRG’s EU mission.

Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) representative to the EU, Delavar Azhgayi, wrote on his official Facebook account that Clarisse Pasztory, head of EU Mission in Kurdistan has expressed optimism about Barzani’s future role in the efforts to bring about reforms.

Pasztory also said that they have known Barzani by his success in the war against the Islamic State (IS).

Azhgai also referred to a statement by Jacob Prada, the ambassador of Romania to Iraq, who had told Kurdistan 24 that they are hopeful that Masrour Barzani is able to improve the relations between Erbil and Baghdad as well as the cooperation between the political parties inside the Kurdistan Region.

Masrour Barzani, a politburo member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) who currently serves as the chancellor of Kurdistan Region Security Council, is nominated by his party for premiership in the upcoming government of Kurdistan.

Other Kurdish political parties, including the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran), have so far welcomed Barzani’s nomination, saying that they would support his future cabinet. Source
