Qatar Not Willing to Re-open Embassy in Syria: FM

Qatar’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said on Monday that his country sees no need to re-open its embassy in Syria.

He also revealed his country’s position on Syria’s membership in the Arab League, saying that Qatar objects to the suggestion of allowing Syria in the league again.

“Since day one Qatar had reasons for which it supported suspending (Arab League) membership and those reasons are still there, so we do not see any encouraging factors,” Reuters quoted al-Thani.

Syria’s membership in the Arab League was suspended in 2011 for Damascus’ violent response to the demonstrations.

Al-Thani said that his country was not willing to normalize the relations with the Syrian regime. Source
