US to Withdraw Troops from Syria by April: Report
The United States is planning to withdraw its troops from Syria by the end of April this year, Wall Street Journal cited US officials.
The report also revealed that the majority of the troops would, however, leave Syria by mid-March.
President Donald Trump announced in December the plan for a military pullout in Syria, arguing that the war against the Islamic State (IS) was over and, therefore, the US troops’ mission was accomplished.
However, no timeline for the pullout was officially announced. Top US commanders recommended gradual withdrawal to ensure stability in the region.
Reuters said another US official had confirmed the April timetable. It revealed that the pullout would include leaving al-Tanaf military base near the Syria-Iraq border. Source
