Push for Gun Control: KRG Destroys Thousands of Unlicensed Weapons

Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Interior on Tuesday destroyed nearly 5,000 pieces of unlicensed weapons as part of its efforts to control gun possession in private hands.

Nali Nawzad, an official from the ministry, told BasNews that the weapons were seized during security forces’ operations to collect unlicensed weapons held by the people in Kurdistan.

He revealed that another 5,000 pieces of weapons will be destroyed on Wednesday this week.

The destruction of the weapons was carried out under the supervision of a special committee and based on a previous order by interior minister, Nawzad added.

He explained that the weapons sent for destruction were outdated and not functioning. Source
