Kurdistan Sets Goal at 3 Million Tourists in 2019: Minister

The Kurdistan Regional Government is working to boost its tourism sector with more visitors this year, said Nawroz Mawloud, the Minister of Municipality and Tourism.

During the Middle East Tourism Expo held in Erbil, Mawloud said the KRG is hoping that it will attract over 3 million tourists to the Kurdistan Region till the end of this year through practical plans it has set.

She noted that despite the economic hardship and the war against the Islamic State (IS), more than 1.6 million tourists visited Kurdistan in 2016. Ever since, according to the minister, the situation is improving to increase the number.

Mawloud detailed that more than 28,000 hotels and hostels across the Kurdistan Region could host 70,000 guests at once and the capacity is steady growing. Source
