US Says Timeline for Its Presence in Syria is Undetermined
The United States has made it clear that its limited number of troops in Syria will stay there with no determined timeline for now.
The US has already confirmed that 400 troops will stay in Syria to help the local Kurdish partners in clearing the area from the remaining Islamic State (IS) elements and stabilize the region before the last troops leave.
Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey said in a press briefing on Monday that Washington has not set the timeline for the 400 troops.
“Our forces will stay on in very limited numbers in northeast and At Tanf to continue our clearing operations and stability operations against ISIS for a period of time not to be determined at this point,” Sputnik quoted Jeffrey.
The comment came less than a week after the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the final victory over IS in Syria. With the victory, the jihadists group holds zero ground but is still present in unpopulated areas across Iraq and Syria. Source
