KDP and PUK Reached Agreement on Formation of New Government
The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) reached a final agreement on the formation of the new government, an official confirmed on Wednesday.
A source from PUK, with knowledge on the issue, told Kurdistan 24 that his party agreed with KDP’s last proposal for the lineup of the next cabinet.
The two parties were in a political deadlock over the past few weeks as the PUK disagreed with its share of key positions in the government.
The PUK faction at the parliament, following the announcement, said it will attend today’s session which is to discuss an amendment to Kurdistan Region Presidency Law.
The amendment is aimed to reactivate the presidency, elect the new president at the parliament, and lay the ground for the formation of the new government. Source
