Royal Navy to Send Marines to Gulf

Royal Navy is expected to deploy 100 marines to the Persian Gulf for the purpose of protecting the British ships following alleged attacks by Iran on oil tankers in the region.

According to a report by The Telegraph, the Government’s Cobra Security Committee will discuss the deteriorated situation as well as the proposal in order to send the marines.

Elite soldiers from 42 Commando will be dispatched from their Plymouth barracks to form the Special Purpose Task Group 19, other reports said.

Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt warned of ‘unintended but catastrophic’ consequences if Iran is found involved in the attacks carried out on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday. Source
