Coalition Commander Warns of IS Resurgence in Iraq
A US-led coalition commander has warned of the resurgence of the Islamic State (IS) in Iraq, as the jihadist group has continued to impose a threat to the security forces and civilians in the country.
Lt. Gen. Paul LaCamera, Commander of the US-led coalition against the Islamic State, said in a statement, cited by Iraqi media al-Madar News, that the extremist group is reportedly attempting to regroup itself in Iraq, and that it has begun its terrorist activities in certain areas of the country.
He noted that the group’s sleeper cells are still active in the liberated territories and that its recent movements in the areas have affected the return of the IDPs to their places of origin.
The former Iraqi government declared full victory over the Islamic State in late 2017, but the insurgents have continued to impose a threat to the country. Source
