Damascus Calls Turkish-US Joint Patrols Violation of Syria’s Sovereignty
Syria condemned the Turkish-US joint patrols in northeast of the country, calling it a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty.
Turkish armored vehicles on Sunday crossed the Syrian border to join the US forces and conduct the first round of joint patrols along the border strip in northern Syria.
The move is planned by Ankara and Washington as part of their preparations for the establishment of a long-promised ‘safe zone’ in the areas known as East Euphrates.
Syrian Foreign Minister said in an official statement that the patrol was also a violation of the “territorial integrity” of Syria.
“The Syrian Arab Republic condemns in the strongest terms launching joint patrols by the US administration and the Turkish regime in the Syrian al-Jazeera region in a flagrant violation of international law and the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic,” state-run SANA quoted the statement.
