Army Launches Fresh Operation Against IS in Northern Iraq

The Iraqi army on Tuesday launched a new military operation against the remaining Islamic State (IS) militants in the north of the country.

Nineveh Operation Command announced the beginning of the operation and said the Iraqi troops will be backed by the airpower of the US-led Coalition.

The operation will focus on the areas around Shirgat and Gayara, between Nineveh and Salahaddin provinces, according to a statement.

The Iraqi government announced the final victory over IS in December 2017. However, it is still struggling to secure the entire territories, especially in the provinces of Anbar, Salahaddin, Nineveh, and Diyalah. Source
