Trump Fires John Bolton
US President Donald Trump has fired the national security adviser, John Bolton, saying that he strongly disagreed with “many” of his suggestions.
“I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House,” Trump said in a surprising statement on Twitter on Tuesday.
The US top official pointed out that he did not agree with “many” suggestions by Bolton and others in the Administration pertaining to Washington’s foreign policy, he, therefore, asked the national security adviser to hand in his resignation.
“I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week,” Trump explained.
The announcement came only one hour after the White House said that Bolton would join Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin for a press briefing.
The national security adviser, meanwhile, wrote on Twitter, after Trump’s announcement, “I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, ‘Let’s talk about it tomorrow.'” Source
