Turkey to Pay “Heavy Price” for Attacking Syrian Kurds: US Senator
US Senator Chris Van Hollen has warned Turkey of paying “a heavy price” for launching an operation against the Syrian Kurdish “partners” in northeastern Syria.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared on Wednesday his country’s long-planned operation in northeastern Syria, while Ankara had repeatedly threatened to target the Syrian Kurdish forces, as it views them as an extension of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is designated as a “terrorist organization” by the country.
“Turkey must pay a heavy price for attacking our Syrian Kurdish partners. Senators on both sides of the aisle won’t support abandoning the one regional group most responsible for putting ISIS on its heels,” Van Hollen wrote on Twitter.
He further threatened to harm Turkey’s economy with possible sanctions as the country already started a military campaign in Syria.
“Our bipartisan sanctions bill is being finalized now,” the US senator concluded. Source
