Samson: Russia and Iran give up the dollar in trade
6th February, 2019
Russia’s ambassador to Iran said Moscow and Tehran had virtually “extricated” the US currency from bilateral trade and were using the ruble and Iranian riyal in commercial transactions.
“The replacement of the dollar with national currencies in trade with Iran is of vital importance to Russia, and the dollar has been cut off in business dealings with the Iranians,” Ambassador Levan Djagaryan said.
“We will use the ruble and the Iranian riyal. In urgent cases, we will use the euro if we do not have other options,” he said, stressing that banks in both countries could handle this difficult task. “The mechanism raises more questions than answers, which is a political step aimed at maintaining the nuclear agreement with Tehran,” he said.
Russia, in cooperation with a number of countries, including China and Turkey, is working to curb the dollar’s dominance over world trade amid growing trade and political tensions with Washington. Russian President Vladimir Putin also called last year for abandoning the dollar and reducing the dependence of the Russian economy on the US currency.
Russian customs data show that trade between Russia and Iran increased by 7.5 percent in the first 11 months of last year compared to the same period in 2017 and reached 1.564 billion dollars. LINK

Samson: Al-Sayadi: Some members of the Anti-Corruption Council are suspected of corruption
6th February, 2019
Independent MP Kazem al-Sayadi said on Wednesday that some members of the anti-corruption council were suspected of corruption, stressing that Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi must be courageous and firm as the authority wanted.
“Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi should be brave and firm as the authority wanted, and today there is a will for the people that is more courageous than the will of the politicians,” Sayadi said in a televised statement.
“Some members of the anti-corruption council are suspected of corruption,” he said. “We hoped the prime minister would change the system of corruption support, and he should change the agents in the original names of his choice.”
“Abdul-Mahdi will not be able to fight corruption and his views have not seen the light of this moment, as some of the corrupt have been recycled to form the Anti-Corruption Council, and the files of corruption are hidden from those who are successful in fighting him and Abdul Mahdi has sufficient authority to fight corruption.” LINK
