Samson: NASA reveals its plan to create a base on the moon by 2024

4/6/2020 13:49:58

NASA has announced its plan to create a base on the moon, ensuring a permanent presence, whether on the surface or around the moon. He has the American lunar presence after this achievement.

According to the American “space” website, the new plan comes from a 13-page report presented days ago to the National Space Council, an advisory group to President Donald Trump, chaired by Mike Pence, vice president.

Much of the report, entitled “NASA’s Plan to Explore and Sustainable Development of the Moon,” summarizes the vision that NASA set to accomplish moon landing in 2024. But the report also looks beyond that to focus on what long-term presence on the moon and in the lunar orbit can allow To the United States accomplished.

“After 20 years of continuous living in a low Earth orbit, we are now ready for the next big challenge of space exploration and the development of a sustainable presence on and around the moon,” NASA director Jim Pridenstein said in a statement. He added: “For years to come, Artemis will serve as the foundation of our work, and as we continue to work towards a greater exploration of the moon, we will show the main elements necessary for the first human mission to Mars.”

Moon base details

The report referred to what NASA named Artemis Base Camp, which is supposed to be a long-term foothold for moon exploration, possibly at Shackleton Crater at the south pole of the moon.  Also, the Artemis base camp, would be home to the lunar surface, could host four Antarctic astronauts for visits, perhaps for a week. The facility will also require energy infrastructure and waste disposal, as well as radiation protection and a landing platform.

The base could also be a site for testing new technologies to deal with bothersome lunar dust and long and cold lunar nights, converting local materials into resources such as water, and developing new energy and building technologies.

The base is supported by two transportation systems, which are mounted on the moon’s surface to facilitate the movement of astronauts across the surface, and a habitable transport platform that can support flights away from the base for a period of up to 45 days. LINK
