The United States stresses the importance of Kurdistan in the stability of the region
The President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, on Tuesday, thanked the US military aid, indicating that part of it had been handed over to the Peshmerga, while Washington stressed the importance of the region’s role in the region’s stability.
The region’s presidency said in a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, “ Nechirvan Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Region, received this evening, Matthew Toller, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Iraq and an accompanying delegation ,” indicating that “ the political and security situation in Iraq was discussed at the meeting.”
The statement added that they discussed “the relations of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with America, the desire to strengthen and opportunities to strengthen them, the strategic dialogue between Iraq and America, the dangers of terrorism, the fight against ISIS, the importance of continuing international support for Iraq in the war against terrorism, the efforts to solve the problems of Erbil – Baghdad and the issue of the upcoming Iraqi elections.” .
He pointed out that “the views of both sides agreed that overcoming the problems and challenges facing Iraq needs support, joint work and cooperation between the Iraqi parties and components, and that the international community can help and cooperate in this context . ”
President Nechirvan Barzani expressed “thanks for the military aid that the United States recently provided to the Kurdistan Region as part of a military aid package for Iraq to help it face terrorism and ISIS threats,” noting that “today, a portion of the Kurdistan Region’s share of this aid was handed over to the Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs . ”
For his part, the US ambassador to Iraq expressed his country’s appreciation for the state of coexistence and harmony between the components of the Kurdistan Region, pointing to the importance of the Kurdistan Region’s role in the region’s stability. He also renewed the expression of America’s support for a strong Kurdistan Region within the framework of a federal Iraq .
