Convergence of viewpoints between Baghdad, Erbil ‘important’ – Party
The convergence of viewpoints between Kurdistan political forces and the central government is important, Aras Habib, secretary-general of Iraqi National Congress, revealed on Friday.
During a meeting with Kurdistan political delegation visiting Baghdad to discuss a number of pending issues, Habib said that the dialogue should have an approach to deal with sensitive issues to solve problems concerning the fate of Kurdistan people.
The National Iraqi Congress has discussed the latest developments in the political scene with Kurdistan delegation in Baghdad, he further stated.
He added that the delegation presented a detailed information on Kurdistan Region’s independence referendum and the political vision it embraces.
It was reported on Friday that a delegation from Kurdistan Region will meet with Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada al-Sadr on Saturday in Najaf to discuss the referendum on independence scheduled for September 25th.
Ammar al-Hakim, head of the National Iraqi Alliance (NIA), confirmed Friday during his meeting with Kurdistan delegation, his support for the unity of Iraq.
The delegation met on Thursday with Iraqi Islamic Party in Baghdad to discuss the region’s independence referendum.
The delegation also met with Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs and a top leader from the Shiite National Alliance Ibrahim al-Jafaari.
Kurdistan Regional Government announced on June 7 that it would vote on September 25 on secession from Iraq.
